POWERFORCE G3 250/250 PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE
-
- AUSTIN,
TEXAS -- December 5, 1997 -- PowerLogix today announced the new "G3
Performance Guarantee" Program for PowerForce G3 250/250 Processor
Cards. This new program, the first of its kind ever offered, guarantees
that owners of the PowerForce G3 250/250 will be able to achieve a
minimum of 275 MHz of processor speed and 275 MHz of backside
cache speed.
-
- The
G3 Performance Guarantee applies only to the PowerForce G3 250/250

ANNOUNCES IMPROVED POWERBOOST PRO WITH LOWER PRICING
AUSTIN,
TX, November 25, 1997 -- PowerLogix, the leader in performance processor
upgrades for Macintosh computers, today announced an improved model
of the PowerBoost Pro, the award-winning and industry-leading accelerated
604e processor card, at prices comparable to fixed speed upgrade
cards from other manufacturers.
-
- The
improved model of the PowerBoost Pro has a completely redesigned remote
control unit, with bus speed and bus ratio rotary switches all placed
on the remote. Previously, the bus ratio switch was on the back of
the PowerBoost Pro circuit board; now, users will find it even easier
to fine-tune their system for maximum performance, with all adjustments
being made via the remote. In addition, the remote control is now
encased in a high-quality ABS plastic enclosure.
The
PowerBoost Pro is now priced less than non-accelerated, fixed speed
cards from Newer Technology (the Citation) while offering superior
accelerated performance and full bus tuning features, which the
Citation lacks. In addition, the PowerBoost Pro is compatible across
the board---one card for all machines, instead of having different
models for different computers, as with the Citation. This means
resellers can stock just one card, instead of multiple SKUs as required
by Newer.
All
PowerBoost Pro models work in the following computers: Apple PowerMac
7300, 7500, 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500, 9600; Power Computing PowerCurve,
PowerWave, PowerCenter, PowerCenter Pro, PowerTower, and PowerTower
Pro; UMAX/SuperMac S900, and C700.

- POWERLOGIX
ANNOUNCES NEW POWERFORCE G3 MODELS
New
Models Offer Superior Performance to New Apple G3 PowerMacs for
One-Third to One-Half the Cost
AUSTIN,
TX, November 10, 1997 -- PowerLogix, the leader in performance processor
upgrades for Macintosh computers, today announced additional models
in the PowerForce G3 line of CPU daughtercard upgrades.
The
new models are mid-range processor upgrades designed to offer the
Macintosh owner an affordable upgrade to the latest in processor
technology, without having to purchase a complete new computer.
The
PowerForce G3 233/117/512K has a 233 MHz PowerPC 750 ("G3")
processor and 512K of backside cache running at 117 MHz. Acceleration
features are included as on the high-end PowerForce G3 cards, so
that the typical user will easily achieve 266 MHz in CPU speed and
133 MHz in backside cache speed. The PowerForce G3 233/117/512K
lists at $999.
The
PowerForce G3 250/125/1Mb has a 250 MHz PowerPC 750 processor and
1Mb of backside cache running at 125 MHz. This model easily out-performs
ALL the new Apple G3 models as well as the MAXpowr Pro from Newer
Technology because it has twice the amount of backside cache, and
when used in acceleration mode, matches the performance figures
of the $2499 MAXpowr Pro+. The PowerForce G3 250/125/1Mb lists at
$1399.
The
PowerForce G3 models offer at least equivalent performance in the
standard configuration to the newly announced Apple G3 machines,
and offer superior performance when accelerated. The new mid-range
PowerForce models cost one-third to one-half the price of new Apple
G3 machines. Owners of low-cost machines such as the PowerBase can
now upgrade to equal or superior performance to the new Apple G3
systems for much less than buying a new computer.
Purchasing
a PowerForce G3 processor card in many cases is a better choice
than purchasing a new machine, for many reasons:
-PowerForce
G3 upgrades offer superior processing speed over every Apple G3
system, from the lowest G3 model all the way to the uncontested
speed champ, the PowerForce G3 275.
-New
Apple machines have only 3 DIMM sockets, limiting the maximum memory,
and use less-available, more expensive SDRAM memory modules. This
means several hundred dollars additional expense if users buy a
new machine instead of a upgrading with a PowerForce G3.
-New
Apple machines have only 3 PCI slots. High-end users that require
more slots are better off upgrading with a PowerForce G3 and keeping
their existing system.
-The
New Apple G3s are less compatible than existing machines, according
to published reports. (Hardware such as the GeoPort modem, Apple
Token Ring Card, 12-inch PC Compatibility card, and Localtalk cabling
are not 100% compatible; and software such as QuickTime Conferencing
and Apple Media Conferencing are not supported.)
High-end
users will benefit from the now-shipping PowerForce G3 250/250/1Mb
or the PowerForce G3 275/275/1Mb, which are the fastest processors
of any type on the market, bar none. The PowerForce G3 250/250/1Mb
easily outperforms its only competitor, the Newer MAXpowr Pro+,
and lists for $300 less. The PowerForce G3 275/275/1Mb achieves
well over 300 MHz in performance and unheard of scores on MacBench
4.0 (over 1200) and has no competitor in the marketplace.
All
PowerForce G3 models work in the following computers: Apple PowerMac
7300, 7500, 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500, 9600; Power Computing PowerCurve,
PowerWave, PowerCenter, PowerCenter Pro, PowerTower, PowerTower
Pro, and PowerBase; UMAX/SuperMac S900, and C700. The PowerForce
G3 is the only upgrade card available for PowerBase systems.

- QUALCOMM
CHOOSES POWERLOGIX
-
- AUSTIN,
TEXAS -- November 4, 1997 -- QUALCOMM Incorporated, of San Diego,
developers of the popular Eudora email software as well as a leading
supplier of digital wireless communications products and technologies,
including digital PCS, have selected PowerLogix processor card and
cache products to upgrade several hundred of their PowerMac 7500 machines.
-
- QUALCOMM,
a public company with over 8,000 employees, selected PowerLogix as
the vendor that provided the most "bang for the buck" and
the only manufacturer that could provide guaranteed reliable, fast
L2 cache products along with competitively priced processor upgrades.
QUALCOMM has already installed over 500 such upgrades to date.

- POWERLOGIX
ANNOUNCES FIRST CPU UPGRADE COMPATIBLE WITH POWERBASE SYSTEMS
-
- AUSTIN,
TEXAS -- November 3, 1997 -- PowerLogix, the industry leader in Mac
acceleration products, today announced the first CPU card that is
- 100%
compatible with the PowerBase line of computers from Power Computing.
The PowerBase, a best-selling model based on the Alchemy motherboard
design, previously had no options for CPU upgrades from any vendor,
including Power Computing. Initial production models of the PowerForce
G3, utilizing the revolutionary PowerPC 750 processor (also known
as the G3, or Arthur) are the first and only upgrade options on the
market for PowerBase owners.
-
- The
PowerForce G3, when installed in a PowerBase, can make the PowerBase
a very economical platform for ultra-fast computing, allowing the
PowerBase to perform as fast as any other more expensive base computer
system with a PowerForce G3 installed. Because of the high-speed backside
cache, the relatively slow 40 MHz system bus of the PowerBase is almost
irrelevant; in addition, the bus speed can be accelerated considerably
above the rated speed, using the bus speed options of the PowerForce
G3.

POWERLOGIX
ANNOUNCES WORLD'S FASTEST PROCESSOR CARD UPGRADE FOR MAC SYSTEMS
PowerLogix
is World's Only Source for PowerPC 750 (G3) Processor with 1:1 Backside
Cache
-
- AUSTIN,
TEXAS -- October 6, 1997 -- PowerLogix, the industry leader in Mac
acceleration products, today announced a new line of processor upgrade
cards for Macintosh and Macintosh compatibles, utilizing the revolutionary
PowerPC 750 processor (also known as the G3, or Arthur.)
-
- The
new processor cards, called the PowerForce G3, feature the PowerPC
750 RISC microprocessor running at speeds of 250MHz, 275MHz, or more.
In addition, the PowerForce G3 features the highest-performance cache
ever devised--the backside cache. The PowerForce G3 has 1Mb of backside
cache running at the same clock speed as the processor. This creates
the fastest processor upgrade available, and in fact allows existing
Macs to become the fastest performing personal computers in history.
-
- "The
introduction of the PowerForce G3 has put PowerLogix into a position
of leadership in the acceleration market. PowerLogix clearly has the
broadest processor product line, and the highest performing products
at every price level in the market," said Robert Jagitsch, president
of PowerLogix. "The extremely high performance of the 1Mb backside
cache, combined with our additional adjustment features, places the
PowerForce G3 as the most desirable upgrade for any Mac user wanting
ultimate performance."
-
- The
PowerForce G3 takes over the performance standards formerly occupied
by the aborted
StarMax 6000 and PowerTower Pro G3 systems, which were the fastest
Mac systems announced to date. Users can achieve the same or better
performance promised by those systems by simply plugging in the PowerForce
G3 into an existing Power Mac or clone with a processor slot.
-
- The
PowerForce G3 has many features in common with the award-winning PowerBoost
line of 604e processors, including variable bus speed and variable
bus ratio. These features allow users to achieve maximum performance
with a minimum of setup.
-
- Using
the industry standard MacBench 4.0 from Ziff-Davis, the PowerForce
G3 275 achieved CPU scores of over 1050, and when adjusted to perform
at 300 MHz, scored an amazing 1157! The PowerForce G3 is the only
CPU product currently on the market that breaks the 1000 point CPU
score. As
tested by MacWeek, the prototype Motorola StarMax 6000 at 300
MHz scored 1071, and the prototype PowerTower Pro G3 275 scored 1029.
-
-
PowerLogix
has secured an exclusive supply of the fast SRAMs required for the
1:1 backside cache, and for the forseeable future will be the world's
only supplier of a PowerPC 750 product (upgrade or computer) with
a 250 MHz or faster backside cache.
-
- "With
the changing scene in the Mac market, we expect to have an incredible
demand for this product," said Mr. Jagitsch. "Thousands
of unfilled backorders were placed for the unshipped speed champs
from Power Computing and Motorola; we expect many of those customers
to finally quench their need for speed by selecting the PowerForce
G3. We expect performance-minded Mac users to snap up these cards
very quickly, since they will work in the system that is already on
their desktop."
-
- The
PowerForce G3 will be available in two versions initially: the PowerForce
G3 250, and the PowerForce G3 275 (part numbers PFG250 and PFG275.)
The product will begin shipping in mid-October. Street prices will
start at under $2000.
-
- The
PowerForce G3 is compatible with the full line of Apple Power Macintosh
computers manufactured over the past two years, including the 7300,
7500, 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500, and 9600. The PowerForce G3 is also
compatible with Power Computing and UMAX systems.
-
- The
PowerForce G3 includes the original, innovative PowerLogix acceleration
circuitry. This allows the user to independently set the Bus Speed
and Bus Multiplier of the PowerForce G3 for maximum possible performance.
By taking advantage of the headroom inherent in the PowerPC processor,
additional performance can be obtained while assuring maximum stability.
-
- Tests
show that 300 MHz of clock and cache speed, or more, are easily achievable
by using these features. This results in performance levels never
before reached, and that are impossible to reach with any other product.
-
- PowerLogix
also announces price reductions of up to 25% on the best-selling PowerBoost
604e and PowerBoost Pro processors, which are the price/performance
leaders in the 604e processor market.

POWERLOGIX
ANNOUNCES THE END OF THEIR ACCELERATOR LINE
Austin,
Texas - October 1, 1997 - PowerLogix announced today that they will
be discontinuing the last two products in their popular line of
PowerBoost Accelerators, the Mach 9 and the Mach 9R. The rest of
the line was closed out during the introduction of the PowerBoost
604e and PowerBoost Pro line of processor cards. "With the
introduction of the Arthur chip and the continued success of the
variable speed Pro cards, it's just not cost effective to continue
to offer these accelerators," said Robert Jagitsch, president
of PowerLogix, Inc.
Customers
who currently own Mach 9's and Mach 9R's will still be able to take
advantage of technical support from PowerLogix. However, no new orders
will be accepted. Replacements for defective products purchased through
authorized dealers will be available for a limited time and only while
supplies last.

POWERLOGIX
ANNOUNCES RapidCache Ultra, THE FASTEST 1MB LEVEL 2 CACHE ON THE PLANET
Austin, Texas - June 25, 1997 - PowerLogix, the leading innovator
in MacOS acceleration products, today announced the RapidCache Ultra
1Mb, the fastest 1Mb cache for MacOS platforms.
-
- The
RapidCache Ultra 1Mb is a state-of-the art design which allows performance
at higher bus speeds than any other cache on the market. Computers
with the RapidCache Ultra 1Mb installed will be able to operate at
the maximum possible bus speed; no longer is the cache the limiting
factor in maximizing performance. Motherboards such as the Tsunami
(8500, 9500, PowerWave, PowerTower Pro) are now able to approach,
and even surpass, 60 MHz bus speeds using products such as the PowerBoost
Pro and the PowerBoost Mach 9 and Mach 9R. These motherboards were
previously known to be able to operate above their 50 MHz specification,
but never before in combination with a 1Mb cache.
-
- Owners
of PowerMacs (some now approaching two years old) will be able to
upgrade their systems well beyond the fastest systems currently on
the market, including the PowerCenter Pro, the current speed champ.
The PowerCenter Pro, with its 60 MHz bus and 1Mb cache, achieves a
MacBench 4.0 processor score of 568. With a processor card that allows
variable bus speeds such as the PowerBoost Pro, or an accelerator
such as the PowerBoost Mach 9, users can achieve scores almost 100
points higher with their existing computer!
-
- The
PowerBoost Pro/RapidCache Ultra upgrade path allows users to keep
their existing systems while maximizing speed for the new crop of
processor-intensive software such as VirtualPC from Connectix.

the user to set the Bus Speed and Bus Multiplier of the PowerBoost
Pro for maximum possible performance, to take advantage of the
additional headroom inherent in the PowerPC processor.
-
- PowerLogix
also announced special bundle offers of the PowerBoost 604e and PowerBoost
Pro with the high-performance RapidCache line of Level 2 cache modules.
"The best way to reach high performance on MacOS systems is to
combine high-speed Level 2 cache with 604e processors," said
Marc Reviel, VP of Engineering at PowerLogix. Until now, quality high-speed
caches have not been available. The PowerLogix RapidCache is the only
cache compatible with the fastest bus speed Mac. PowerLogix is the
only source for both high-speed cache and high performance processor
cards. "Only PowerLogix has a complete family of products for
maximum performance," said Reviel. The RapidCache is available
in 512K and 1Mb sizes.
-
- The
PowerBoost 604e and PowerBoost Pro Processor Cards will allow owners
of many older systems to upgrade to levels above and beyond currently
shipping systems. For example, Power Computing PowerCurve owners,
previously relegated to the relatively slow 601 PowerPC, can now upgrade
their systems to levels equal to (or above) the PowerCenter Pro, which
recently received the highest industry awards. By the simple addition
of the PowerBoost Pro 200 and the RapidCache 1Mb, the PowerCurve system
is capable of equivalent processor performance to the PowerCenter
Pro. With the addition of the PowerBoost Pro 225 or 233, the older
PowerCurve system becomes significantly faster than the latest offering
from Power Computing, for much less investment than a new machine.
-
- The
PowerBoost 604e is available now for the following platforms: Apple
PowerMac 7300, 7500, 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500, 9600; Power Computing
PowerWave and certain PowerCenter systems; SuperMac S900, and J700.
- The
PowerBoost Pro will be available soon and will be compatible with
all the above machines as well as the complete line of Power Computing
machines: the PowerCurve, PowerCenter, PowerTower, PowerCenter Pro,
PowerWave, and PowerTower Pro.
